Lagos Rains

Lagos rains is big loud boisterous like the city that tries to copy it. It is as if the belly of the sky has given way suddenly, and its intestines spilt through. Hot pungent big globs of water, weighty bags of water bombs. You can hear the beating of the rains in your sleep, it seeps into your subconscious and gives vividness to your dreams.

It turns roads into gullies, rushing to take back the lagoon from these megalomaniacs who dare building a city of teeming humanity in its path. Lagos rains is loud, angry, fast, sudden. It comes with purpose to wash away humanities stain. It roars, it shouts, it is unrelenting strong and powerful. It drenches with a single mind with a nefarious purpose.
Then the thunder comes clapping, from nowhere, booming angry strong. It is no wonder the ancestors were cowered by the noise to give tokens of their fealties to the angry gods as barter for relief. It is the sound the people speak in, play in, fight in, gist in, live in. Loud, bombastic people, scary, willingly alive.
Bow down go Lagos rains, pounding heavily on and on. Submit to its power, give in to its demands. Run to find shelter people, the rain remains determined to reclaim its lands. To bring down the towers, and skyscrapers, the shanties and billionaire estates. To remind the foreigners of China town, Agip, Julius Berger, Oracle, Coca-cola and Unilever this is Lagos. This is Africa. This is where nature is most naked do not be fooled by the modern city. Do not be fooled by the financial captains and industrialists. Do not be fooled by these educated go getting masses. Do not be fooled by the Obas and the landowners.
I reign, I own this land, I the rain will take away your fire. By my strength there will be no electricity, no generator nor power grid can defeat me. No engineering feat of fancy bridges can stop me. No wifi, internet, communications and stand me. I am like the hackers that takedown Microsoft I own this land, I run this land. In my wake there is gridlock and I stop this land. Until I decide to move all will stand aside. Do not let the churches and mosques and the masquerades fool you. Like Lagos Yahoo girls and boys do not let my music lull you. Let down your guard, I am Lagos rain, and by my majesty, you all loose until drip by drip I decide to relent to slow down my torment.
